Thunder Bay – Reader’s Ledger – Hi Nicole, I’d like to help, but you’ve seen fit to sanction the two local Thunder Bay area reps who speak for myself and local residents on the issues of the day. Under the terms of these sanctions my two area reps are banned from speaking up on these issues, asking questions of the Harper government and speaking out on my behalf and on behalf of area residents.
Sorry I can’t be of more help, but you’ve silenced my voice and tied my hands just as surely as you have tied the hands and silenced the voices of both of Thunder Bay’s federal reps.
And over something as irrelevant as the long gun registry yet. A non-issue for many people in this country (including myself) and certainly one not deserving of the sanctions levied against our two fine local reps.
Perhaps you’d like to remove the sanctions on Mr. Rafferty and Mr. Hyer, as I’m certain they would be only too happy to add their voices to this cause and support your efforts – IF YOU WILL LET THEM and allow them to once again speak up on behalf of the residents of this city who elected them as our federal reps.
The sanctions and the fact that the NDP – a party which has long stood up for free votes and mps voting their conscience over party lines – put these sanctions in place against our two area reps, is not sitting well with local voters at all.
Many have vowed to never again vote NDP over this, and this area does have a strong Liberal representation and support. These sanctions have not only silenced our chosen reps, but they may hurt the NDP at all levels in this city, and these reps in the next federal election.
Some food for thought. We all have to learn to pick and choose our battles. This was and is not the one to make a point with – I assure you.
I suggest you remove the sanctions on Misters Hyer and Rafferty and let them speak up on and to this issue on behalf of myself and other local residents who voted them as our NDP reps in Ottawa.
It would be nice to get a little local representation in exchange for the funds you are soliciting for.
Take Care & Rock On!
