GUELPH, ON – Sports – The women’s volleyball team lost again in straight sets to Guelph on Saturday, 25-22, 25-17, 25-15.
Lakehead’s top scorer was with Brittany MacLeod with 11 points(9 kills, 2 aces, .500 attack %), she also dug up 4 balls. Setter Sara Hudson had 21 assists and 4 digs. Libero Breanne Hilhorst had 7 digs.
Guelph’s Brooks Lloyd had 13 points and 6 digs.
LU head coach Chris Green is confident his team’s ability is there, but they have yet to compose their efforts into a complete match, “Tonight started off the right way.” Green begins, “Point for point the girls battled smart and aggressively, following exactly what they designed and accepted as the ‘plan’. When one person in our game at 20-20 misses their assignment, veteran teams will make you pay. After 20 points, the defined and accepted ‘plan’ becomes even more critical. At least it should. We lost that set because we did not maintain our will to the end.”
Green continues, “Second set, again, we started following the game plan. You to execute and have the wherewithal to maintain the plan. Unfortunately these players, rookie and senior, are struggling with that. Hopefully they will pick something up from their positive start in this game and learn to make it happen for the entire match. Cudos to Brittany Macleod for her outstanding performance tonight. She gives her all mentally and physically game in and game out.”
The women finish of their weekend with a match in Hamilton against McMaster Sunday.
