Lakehead University women’s volleyball team were defeated 3-1

ThunderwolvesTORONTO – Sports – The Lakehead University women’s volleyball team were defeated 3-1 on Friday evening by the University of Toronto Varsity Blues, 25-16, 22-25, 25-22, 25-19.

Lakehead got it’s output from Michelle Cournoyer with 11 points (8 kills, 2 stuff blocks, 2 block assists), while Jorie Daymond and Brittany MacLeod had 10 points each (9 and 7 kills, respectively). Setter Sara Hudson had 34 assists and libero Breanne Hilhorst dug up 16 balls.

U of T was led by Charlotte Sider with 17 points (16 kills, 1 stuff block, 11 digs) and setter Malena Rapaport had 43 assists and 14 digs. Katrina Rossall had 15 digs.

Lakehead coach Chris Green had no regrets about the way the team prepared this week, but notes that the team needs to keep their cool in check if they are to compete for a weekend split tomorrow. “We prepared for Toronto well.” Chris mentioned post game, “We expect the nerves to not show up for tomorrows rematch. We really did not execute well, and that was on all of us as a team. Our mistakes tonight were all on us.”

The Thunderwolves will rematch against the Varsity Blues tomorrow evening at 5 pm.
