WINNIPEG, MB – Sports – The Lakehead University women’s basketball team couldn’t quite get over the hill versus a tough Trinity Western team, losing 72-57 on Saturday evening. Lakehead lead by 3 at the half (28-25) and by 3 after 3 quarters (50-47). This was followed, however, by a 4th quarter break down to the tune of a 25-7 score differential favoring Trinity Western. Lakehead was led by Lindsay Druery with 14 points and 9 rebounds. Carolyn Fragale dropped 11 points and 4 assists, and Kelsey Bardsley had 10 points for Lakehead.
Trinity Western got production from Holly Strom with 21 points and Laurelle Weigl had 13; the pair of Spartans also grabbed 7 rebounds apiece.
Coach Jon Kreiner finds the positive in the play of his veteran post Druery, who is aiming for another OUA all-star season this year. “After 3 quarters of our best basketball of the year we had a 4th quarter collapse. We turned the ball over the first 6 of 7 possessions of the 2nd half and multiple times in the 4th. On a positive, Lindsay Druery played a great game against one of the top post players in the country and we did a good job for 3 quarters against a very good team”.
