BRANDON, MB – Sports – Lakehead University’s men’s basketball team, were not going to leave anything to chance on Saturday evening, handing the Brandon Bobcats a handsome loss, 104-62. On Friday Brandon very nearly beat the Thunderwolves with a last-second shot but lost 72-71. Coach Scott Morrison must found the correct motivation for his players in the second half of this affair, as Lakehead led 53-50 going into the locker room. Lakehead proceeded to unleash a fury in the final 20 minutes, outscoring their opponent 51-12 in the second half.
For the second night in a row Venzal Russell led all scorers, netting 22 points on 8 of 13 shooting, including 4 for 5 on 3-point attempts. Ben Johnson had 17 points and 5 rebounds, Ryan Thompson had 15 points (5 of 9 from three) and veteran guard Greg Carter had 17 points, 8 assists and 4 steals.
Emerick Ravier led the way for the Bobcats, finishing with 13 points and nine rebounds. Jordan Reaves shot 3 for 4 from 3-point land, finishing the game with nine points.
Coach Scott Morrison stated, “We were much more disciplined on defense and efficient on offense tonight and it showed on the scoreboard. The sooner our guys dedicate themselves to our game plan each night for 40 minutes, the sooner we can think about being a contender in the OUA West.”
