Lakehead Women Lose to Regina, 67-39

ThunderwolvesWINNPEG, MB – (With files from Sheldon Appelle) The Regina Cougars improved their record to 2-0 at the BOB FM Shootout with a 67-38 victory over the Lakehead Thunderwolves Saturday night at the Duckworth Centre in Winnipeg. Regina built a comfortable lead of 36-19 at halftime and never looked back.

Joanna Zalesiak led Regina with a game high 14 points. Michelle Clark added 13 and Alyssia Kajati finished with 10. Brittany Read was a force finishing with 10 rebounds and three blocks.

Lacy McNulty was the top scorer for the Thunderwolves with nine points. Lindsay Druery hauled in seven rebounds.

Regina (2-0) will face Winnipeg (2-0) Sunday afternoon at 12:00 p.m. Manitoba (0-2) will face Lakehead (0-2) in the early game at 10:00 a.m.

Lakehead Coach Jon Kreiner said of the game, “We were out of sink offensively and got hammered on the 0 glass tonight. Regina showed us how a top 5 team wins ugly games. We need to regroup and get ready for a quick turnaround vs Manitoba tomorrow morning”.
