THUNDER BAY – If Forum Research is right, there could be an ‘Orange Surge’ about to engulf at least on of the Thunder Bay area provincial seats in October 6th’s election. A poll conducted by Forum Research has the New Democrat candidate Mary Kozory leading in Thunder Bay Atikokan, with 37% of the vote, followed by Liberal Bill Mauro at 32% and the Conservative Fred Gilbert at 26%.
In Thunder Bay Superior North, Forum Research has Michael Gravelle ahead by a slim 1% lead with 35% support, Steve Mantis of the New Democrats is at 34% and Anthony LeBlanc is at 25%.
The expanded polling which interviewed 690 respondents in each riding, has a margin of error of +/- 3.8%, 19 times out of 20. The poll was conducted for the Ontario Federation of Labour.
“We polled a large number of people in several ridings about support for local candidates and discovered an incredible momentum behind Andrea Horwath and the NDP,” said OFL President Sid Ryan. “We zeroed in on the tight races and found that the NDP candidate is the front-runner in eight out of the nine ridings surveyed, often with considerable margins.”
The study, conducted by Forum Research Inc., interviewed over 6,000 respondents in nine ridings on September 26 and 27 and found the NDP candidate in the lead in eight of the races. The poll also found that the NDP has the largest growth potential in the final days before the October 6 election. The NDP secured the highest level of support of any party as a second choice for decided voters, with 60% of Liberal voters giving the NDP serious consideration.
The only real poll will be on October 6th when voters decide. To make sure you are eligible to vote, visit www.elections.on.ca/en-ca.
