THUNDER BAY – On September 27th 2001, in Toronto the leaders of all three political parties will debate issues. On September 23rd, in Thunder Bay, Andrea Horwath and Tim Hudak squared off in the Northern Leaders Debate. Dalton McGuinty declined the opportunity to attend.
The debate at the Valhalla Inn in Thunder Bay offered a full house of community leaders from across Northwestern Ontario the opportunity to hear what Horwath and Hudak offer for the North.
Both leaders, while respectful toward each other and toward Dalton McGuinty in their comments laid out a view that many in the region have expressed that the North wants in.
While a protester outside the event, complete with a chicken was calling down the Premier for not showing up, the audience inside was respectful to both leaders, as were supporters of both party leaders.
NetNewsledger.com and Shaw TV Thunder Bay worked together to bring both the live-stream coverage of the debate and now the achieved coverage on Youtube.
We would like to thank Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association for the co-operation in providing a larger audience the opportunity to view the debate as well. In our view it is an important part of the democratic process to allow unfiltered information to the public.
