THUNDER BAY – On the tenth anniversary of the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center, Pentagon and the crash of Flight 93, it is likely all over North America people will be sharing memories of where they were when they first heard the news. For me, I was sitting in my office when a co-worker came in. His first words to me were, “You have not heard the news?”
I asked, “What news”. As he relayed what had happened, we both decided to get in front of the nearest television set. I was simply shocked at the unfolding story, like most people watching the terrible news unfold that day.
Watching the collapse of the World Trade Centre Towers was watching people die in front of our eyes. It was watching families ripped apart, and lives changed forever. The attacks have changed our world, and not for the better.
Over time, learning all that had been happening as news continued to come out, didn’t lessen the horrors of that day, it magnified them.
Today is a day to remember, reflect and realize that together we can make our world a better place.
