THUNDER BAY – Are you a coffee drinker? Do you want to help the Alzheimer Society? You or your company can step up to help. The Alzheimer Society hosted a registration day for their annual Coffee Break fundraising initiative on Thursday September 8, 2011 at their 180 Park Avenue office.
At the event individuals and businesses met staff, got a tour of the office and signed up to host a coffee break and pick up their kit which includes coffee pouches, posters, banners, and more. Melanie Albanese of local title sponsor Thunder Bay Insurance issued a challenge to the business community to get involved and make their Coffee Count and raise funds for programs and services for local people living with dementia.
“Alzheimer’s disease knows no boundaries, and you can’t insure the memories of someone suffering from dementia. I know from my own personal experience with my Dad” says Melanie. “A simple and easy way to get involved and help ensure no one faces this disease alone is by hosting a coffee break!”
Melanie unveiled the Golden Coffee Cup trophy that will be awarded to the top business host who raises the most funds. The Alzheimer Coffee Break prize raffle is as follows:
‘Dinner is served’ prize package includes gift certificates to over a dozen local restaurants
Catered lunch from Crock-N-Dial Sandwiches for up to 10 people
2 event tickets to Magnus Theatre
Event tickets to the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra
1 month membership at the Canada Games Complex
Days Inn and Suites – gift basket (Facebook Photo Contest)
While Coffee Break officially kicks off September 15, participants can host their event any time during the month and into October, and can be as simple or elaborate as they like, from organizing corporate challenges to holding trivia nights, to staging events at local coffee shops or shopping malls.
Those interested can also donate by purchasing Coffee Break decals from this year’s campaign supporter Bulk Barn, from September 7 through 22, and by visiting Thunder Bay Insurance on September 15. You can also make a direct contribution over the phone or in person at the Alzheimer Society office.
