THUNDER BAY – “We’re proud of the exceptional work our Thunder Bay researchers do. Their contributions are making the world a better place, starting right here in Thunder Bay, with new ideas and jobs in our community,” stated Bill Mauro, MPP Thunder Bay-Atikokan. Ontario’s investments in world-leading life sciences, clean technology, information technologies and other strategic areas of research at Lakehead University include support for Lakehead University researchers Dr. Philip Fralick and Dr. Aicheng Chen.
Water contamination caused by arsenic and other heavy metals is a growing global problem. Drs. Fralick and Chen are developing a cost-effective clean-up process integrated with nanotechnology and biotechnology. Their work will give Ontario’s water/wastewater sector a clear competitive advantage in a multi-billion dollar a year industry.
“The research work being done at Lakehead University is an important economic driver for Thunder Bay and is helping us transform our community into a knowledge base that’s earning world-wide respect. I’m proud that our government continues to provide consistent support to LU research,” added Michael Gravelle, MPP Thunder Bay-Superior North.
