THUNDER BAY – Sports – The Thunder Bay Chill enjoyed a taste of home-field advantage Tuesday night when they defeated fellow Canadian’s, WSA Winnipeg, 3-0. With two goals, Brandon Swartzendruber led his team to a victory that now sees the Chill in top spot in the Heartland Division.
Swartzendruber scored the winning goal in the 12th minute, assisted by Nolan Intermoia. Despite scoring early, the Chill was unable to lock up the game till the final minutes, as Winnipeg put on a strong defensive display. However, Swartzendruber struck again in the 77th minute, sealing the victory for his team. Anthony Putrus scored a late marker (88th), which had the home crowd (638 in attendance) at Chapples Park on their feet.
Jordian Farahani and Nolan Intermoia of the Chill and Michael Allie of Winnipeg were all shown yellow cards in the game.
The teams will have a rematch Wednesday (July 13) at 7:30 p.m. (EDT) at Chapples Park.
