Damage to the greens at Strathcona Golf Club
THUNDER BAY – News – The Thunder Bay Police Service are investigating extensive damage to 4 greens at Strathcona Golf Course in the city’s north end. It appears that an ATV was driven onto the holes sometime during the overnight hours of July 9, 2011. Damage is estimated to be between $15,000 and $20,000.

City of Thunder Bay Director of Golf Tom Forsythe says that the task of fixing the greens is well underway. “Two of the four greens have already been repaired”.

“We are plugging it…almost like changing holes but on a larger scale and using a hex plugger,” shares Forsythe. The task is made more difficult because of the sensitivity of bent grass greens to heat.

Sharing on how the repair looks, Forsythe says, “They almost look like interlocking paving stones but are grass”.
