THUNDER BAY – Thunder Bay’s premier golf tournament will be held next week. The Freedom 55 Financial Thunder Bay Hockey Celebrity Golf Classic in support of the Northern Cancer Fund takes place Tuesday at Whitewater Golf Club. As always, the event will be attended by home-grown hockey celebrities.
The tournament is on Tuesday, July 12th at the Whitewater Golf Club.
In years past, participants included: Taylor Pyatt; Tom Pyatt; Ryan Johnson; Patrick Sharp; Marc Staal; Jordan Staal; Haley Irwin; Alex Auld; Mike Kompon; Mike Jacobsen; Jeremy Adduono; Jeff Heerema; Malcolm McMillan; Dan Bois; Trevor Kehl; and Trevor Letowski
One hockey celebrity will join each team of four golfers. A ‘Hall of Fame’ sponsorship entitles the sponsor to the first draft pick of the day – the player of their choice will join their team. The second draft pick will go to the highest bidder in a live auction just prior to tee-off.
“These initiatives allow us to raise maximum funds in support of world-class cancer care here in Northwestern Ontario,” says Tom Mihaljevic, event chair and Director, Business Development for Freedom 55 Financial.
To date, The Freedom 55 Financial Thunder Bay Hockey Celebrity Golf Classic has raised over $200,000 for the Northern Cancer Fund of the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation. “100% of those funds stay in Northwestern Ontario to support cancer education & awareness, screening, treatment and research,” says Glenn Craig, President & CEO of the Health Sciences Foundation. “Events like this one have a direct impact on cancer patients in our community. Because of support like this, more people are living with cancer than dying from it.”
