Canada will celebrate the 150th Anniversary of Confederation

Canada FlagOTTAWA – Greetings, fellow Canadians. It has been 144 years since Sir John A. Macdonald, Sir George-Etienne Cartier and the great statesmen of that era brought Canadians together in Confederation.

They gazed down the years, and imagined what the best country in the world could look like.

How incredible was their vision.

The consequence of the peace, order and good government in which they rooted their Constitution, is the Canada we know and love today:

A strong Canada.

A Canada respected in the world as a good partner.

And a Canada so prosperous and so welcoming, that it has become a beacon for people from every conceivable nation who seek freedom and a better life.

We have so much for which to be grateful.

And we are particularly proud on this Canada Day to welcome our future king and queen the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, who have picked our country for their first royal tour.

On this day above all others, may our hearts glow as we see our Canada rise.

For truly, we do have the best country in the world, just as our founders intended.

On behalf of my family, Laureen, Ben, and Rachel, and on behalf of the Government of Canada, we wish all Canadians a Happy Canada Day!

Prime Minister Stephen Harper
