THUNDER BAY – SEVERE THUNDER STORM WARNING – This warning as of 7:00PMEDT has been continued… Environment Canada says “Severe thunderstorms with damaging winds and torrential downpours possible this evening. This is an alert to the potential development of severe thunderstorms with large hail, damaging winds or heavy rainfall..Monitor weather conditions and listen for updated bulletins.
“A cold front is triggering thunderstorms as it moves east across Northwestern Ontario this evening. The thunderstorms have the potential to become severe with damaging winds, torrential downpours, intense lightning and large hail all being threats”.
A line of strong to severe thunderstorms extending from near Armstrong to 40 km west of Gull Bay will may move out over the northern half of Lake Nipigon within the hour. A separate thunderstorm has formed just southwest of Suomi and may reach the Kakabeka Falls area within the hour.
2 to 4 cm hail and wind gusts of 100 km/h are possible in these thunderstorms. Intense lightning and torrential downpours giving 25 to 50 mm of rain in well under an hour are also possible.
Severe thunderstorms are imminent or occurring in the area. These storms may produce large hail, damaging winds or heavy rainfall. Remember that some severe thunderstorms can also produce tornadoes.
