NicoleTHUNDER BAY – The jazz-inspired songstress is making her mark in Thunder Bay and why not? Being under 21 and fresh on the scene with ambition locked in at maximum overdrive, Nicole Arseneau is definitely an emerging force to reckon with.

Growing up in a church driven family, exposed her to choirs at a young age but her talent as an acoustic performer only manifested a year and half ago. “I was a really bad singer growing up”, Nicole says laughing. “I have no idea how my choir put up with my voice”, she continued shaking her head.

Although her parents didn’t have a musical influence per say, they did set the stage for her by purchasing her first karaoke machine at Christmas when she was just 11 years old. “I couldn’t believe I could record and play back my own songs, which forced me to change things up and train by myself”. It wasn’t until then did she find her voice.

“When I sing? I like to go back to that moment of inspiration. When I need it? I find going out and meeting new people gains me more experience to write. I have more break up type music but thats only because I can be more creative straight from the situations that enabled those emotions at that time”.

“I love it when obscure artists come out of nowhere and make it big in the music scene. That’s why Adele is hands down my favorite. She is so terrified to perform
and no one sounds better Live then her. I only hope to be where she is now, she sings with such emotion behind her lyrics and I will get there one day very soon”.

“I’m very ambitious. In the next 5 years I’m striving myself to be signed and playing in front of thousands of people for years to come. I just see me loving my life
and being happy at what I’ve accomplished.”

“If I could tell anything to the up and comers in the music scene is , Don’t go down that safe route. Everyone has a comfort zone but you have to strive to be better.

You’ll never be satisfied if you don’t try. Get out there and don’t be scared. Its not hard if you put your mind to it and go out and take it.

“DREAMING IS BELIEVING”- People have great imaginations and I strongly believe that if you dream it , it will come true- Nicole Arseneau

Nicole has advanced to the Top 10 in the Northern Ontario Youth Talent Competition and the scheduled performances are held once again at The Canadian Lakehead Exhibition August 15th 2011.
