THUNDER BAY – Have you wondered why your street still has not been visited by a city crew yet?

Due to the late arrival of spring this year, street sweeping in residential areas began three weeks later than spring 2010.

This year’s program commenced near the end of April on both the north and south sides of Thunder Bay and is expected to be complete by the end of July.

Thunder Bay is divided into ten residential areas on each side of the city for the residential sweeping program. Each year the order in which areas are swept is rotated for fairness and to provide a balanced service delivery to all areas of the City. The harsh winter of 2011 resulted in the use of more winter control material than in 2010. Transportation & Works Dispatchers have been receiving a higher than usual number of inquiries regarding the schedule of sweeping operations.

If your area has not been swept by the end of July or if you have questions regarding street sweeping in your area, contact the Transportation & Works Dispatchers at 684-2195.
