THUNDER BAY – Lakehead University is adding some extra power to their women’s volleyball roster. Brittany MacLeod (Dakota Collegiate) has made a commitment to Lakehead University to for the 2011-2012 season. She will be entering her 3rd year of eligibility in transferring to Lakehead.

MacLeod, a 6’2″ middle blocker brings her experience in the Canada West to Lakehead and is looking forward to stepping on the floor to contribute. She is a Kinesiology student who has played competitively on Manitoba’s Provincial teams and for 2 years at Brandon University.

She brings to Lakehead an unquestioned passion for playing and a desire to win. In choosing Lakehead, she comes to a team that has improved its level of play and competitiveness to a great degree. Adding a player with Brittany’s capabilities allows them to step ahead in their experience level on the floor. Her addition will bolster a lineup that has shown itself ready to challenge in the OUA.

Brittany joins the recent announcement of setter and fellow Manitoban Sara Hudson (College Jeaune Sauve) joining the Thunderwolves.

LU Head Coach Chris Green is excited about the skills and experience MacLeod brings. “I have known Brittany for a while and am pleased having an athlete of her abilities decide to bring her talents to our university. Brittany has a desire to play and show she is a contributor. We get an experienced athlete with passion to play daily. There are many players who want to play and for her to make a decision to go where she can play, is a mature decision. In our system, she will grow rapidly and her experience will benefit our young athletes. We need to add players who can contribute immediately and Brittany is that type of athlete. I look forward to the pleasure of working with her at Lakehead as she strives towards her degree and we strive to make her development greater and make our program a contender both provincially and nationally”.

Brittany MacLeod has had previous experience with Green’s coaching and is glad to continue her career in his system. “I played for two years with Brandon University and been a red shirt for the Bobcats this year. The past three years have been part of my post-secondary adventure, but now I am thrilled to be going to Lakehead University where I will utilize that experience to make an impact with the Thunderwolves. I had the pleasure of working with Chris Green a few years ago through the Manitoba provincial volleyball program and I am ecstatic to continue my passion for volleyball under his guidance. He is a very experienced coach and is developing a reputable program at LU. The girls have been very warm, welcoming and helpful in the recruiting process. I am coming to the team with high spirits and the drive to compete and make a difference on the court,” shared MacLeod.
