THUNDER BAY – Mardi Gras is French for (Fat Tuesday) is a festive celebration of music and dance for the cultural soul. Shayna Mihalus & Lindsay Curran are Co-Presidents of the LU Anthropology Association wanted to get creative for this year fundraiser.
Both girls didn’t realize how much planning and organizing it took to put on such an event and after 2 months their proud of the hardwork thats brought them to this point. Lindsay explains they gained a lot of experience for future fundraisers. Shayna the 4th year Anthropology student says that deciding to canvas local business for donations and prizes was the best thing to help with the giveaways for the activities at tonight’s event.
The students discovered that on their walkabout that most of the businesses didn’t even know that the Anthropology Archaeology program existed at our university so it was a real eye-opener how much this experience gained us important exposure for the course itself.
Lindsey says “There’s very limited funding from LUSU available for any event like this for students so this was all self-funded thanks to the Anthropology Associations.
For tonight’s event they wanted to incorporate some of the transitional activities to get people networking and interacting with each other and also raising money for a very good cause “our conference” say the two.
The bead contest found the girls ordering from the US which was still significantly cheaper in the end than purchasing locally.
Best mask contest, raffle like prizes and the 3 penatas are sure to be a huge hit.
The party will be rocking with City Wide Sound, Amanda Mihalus’ DJ services so you are guaranteed to be on that dance floor all night long!
