THUNDER BAY – The goal of having a Law School at Lakehead University continues. Lakehead University reports that “The Ad Hoc Committee on the Approval of New Canadian Law Degree Programs recently made a recommendation to the Council of the Federation of the Law Societies of Canada to approve Lakehead University’s proposal for a new law degree program”.
This development is seen as a crucial step in the lengthy and complex process of obtaining approval for Lakehead University’s law school Council members have until February 27 to vote on the Committee’s recommendation. Results of the next steps in the process following the Council vote will be reported as they become available.
A new law school in Thunder Bay would be located at the old Port Arthur Collegiate campus just north of the downtown northward core.
Proponents of the proposed law school have suggested that having a law school in Thunder Bay at Lakehead University would be a solid step forward for Aboriginal students to get law degrees.
