THUNDER BAY – The depth of music in Thunder Bay is simply incredible.

Jean-Paul De Roover has recently completed his 3rd studio recording entitled ‘Pitch Pipes’ and will be releasing it at The Study on February 11th. This 3-track EP features material from the 2009 album ‘Windows and Doors’ reworked entirely a cappella. The first two songs ‘Fix’ and ‘You’ were previously released as singles and both have music videos that were featured on MuchMusic. The last track is a medley of several other pieces from ‘Windows and Doors’.

“While many artists release remixes of their music,” De Roover comments, “I decided to reduce the instrumentation to just my voice and reinterpret my songs in an older style; a cappella.”

Having previously spent several years singing with the Gentlemen of Harmony (formerly the Thunder Bay Barbershop Chorus) and other a cappella choruses and quartets, De Roover has had a longstanding appreciation for all vocal music. A cappella has found its way into De Roover’s live performances and albums before, but has never been showcased exclusively on a recording until now. Using only his voice for all the instrumentation, he recreates the music from his latest album, while putting new twists and medleys together to create something new and refreshing. Also, like all his recordings; no ‘autotune’ (pitch correcting software) was used in the production of the album, something that De Roover is very proud to announce. The EP was recorded at Dining Room Studios and has collage artwork created by Greg Dubeau and De Roover.

The EP release party has a vocal theme, with the different acts all having multiple singers, making for a night full of harmony. One of the special guests will be a barbershop quartet from the Gentlemen of Harmony; The Noteables. De Roover will also be performing vocal-centric music using live-looping to build his music from the ground up in his now signature style. Using this approach, he blends rock/pop/acoustic/electronica and of course, a cappella.
