THUNDER BAY – Event planners have made sure that this year, the famous Terry Fox Run and the Thunder Bay Marathon are working together. The Lakehead Rotary Club and the Thunder Bay Marathon-Miles with the Giant are pleased to announce their collaboration to bring the community together for two exceptional events on Sunday, September 18, 2011. The day will begin at 8am with the 2nd Annual Thunder Bay Marathon-Miles with the Giant marathon, half-marathon and 10K races followed by the Terry Fox 5K Run/Walk at 2:00pm. The organizers of both events look forward to sharing resources and working together to make the day an enormous success for all involved.
Don Morrison, Chair of the Terry Fox Run commented, “The Terry Fox Run holds a special place in the hearts of Thunder Bay citizens. I believe that a full day of running activities is a special and fitting way to honour the memory of Terry Fox. Our 2010 run had over 600 participants and raised $20,000 for the Terry Fox Foundation. We are very excited to be working together with the organizers of the Miles with the Giant to make this year’s events even better.”
Barry Streib, President & Chair of the Thunder Bay Marathon-Miles with the Giant remarked, “We are so pleased to have the opportunity to work with the Lakehead Rotary Club, and especially to share our resources to assist their organization in honouring Terry Fox’s memory. September 18, 2011 will be a very special day for Thunder Bay.”
“Our Miles with the Giant 2010 event brought together 846 participants from over 75 communities across Canada, the US, Kenya and Sweden and we hope to grow that number to over 1,000 this year.” added Streib.
Registration for the Thunder Bay Marathon-Miles with the Giant will open on March 1st.
