Fort William Historical ParkTHUNDER BAY – Family members of all ages can join in the fun and festivities as Fort William Historical Park hosts the  New Year’s Eve Family Frolic, happening from 6 ‘til 10 pm, Friday, December 31st

Enjoy plenty of outdoor and indoor activities.  Bring your skates and toboggans to try the rink and sliding hill.  Go for a snowshoe trek (snowshoes supplied).  Hop aboard the dog sled rides.  Join in heritage games of shinny (best described as field hockey, fur trade style) and snowsnake (short sticks slid down snow troughs).  Warm up by the bonfires throughout the site. 

Indoor fun features crafts and games.  Make a creative hat and compete for great prizes in the Crazy Hat Contest.  Children’s entertainment includes Bobo the Clown, the Tune-a-tics, Flipper Flanagan, and the Grumpy Grandpas.  Main stage entertainment includes fiddler Olivia Korkola, Arabic dance with Dahab, and Music Workshop with Sean Jesseau.  Tasty snacks will be sold in the Cantine.    

The Victoria Inn is hosting a New Year’s Buffet in the Visitors Centre featuring pasta and meatballs, garlic bread, Caesar salad, and other offerings.  Cost (which includes event admission)

is $22.75 for adults and $11.41 for children.  No reservation required.  Buffet is available from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  The Victoria Inn is also offering a special New Year’s overnight package.  Please see www.fwhp.ca under Festivals and Events for details. 

There is an exciting attendance draw for a seven-night, all inclusive family vacation for two adults and two children (ages under 15) at the Grand Sirenis Mayan Beach in Riviera Maya, Mexico, courtesy of Transat Holidays.  All paid admissions will receive one entry ballot.  Ballots must be completed by a person 18 years of age or older.  For vacation package information, please visit www.fwhp.ca, under “Festivals & Events.” 

Everyone will gather in the Main Square at 9:55 pm for grand prize draw followed by the fabulous fireworks display at 10:00 pm.  The little ones get a chance to enjoy New Year’s excitement before heading home for bed.
