THUNDER BAY – Okay… I have read through every comment and it is more than obvious my opinions about this subject are unpopular, to say the least. I stand by them 110% and not writing this to retract one thing I wrote, nor do I as though I need to defend myself to those who have had some really disgusting insults for me as a person, not my opinion. Pretty ignorant considering all this talk about our Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, which by the way states very clearly one of the four fundamental freedoms is “freedom of thought, belief, opinion and expression, including freedom of the press and other media of communication“.
I suggest a few of you take a look at it before so bravely insulting my personality on a message board because you don`t agree with me about one subject.
My reason for writing this was to clear up a few things that are important when it comes to this issue.
First, this curfew is for minors under the age of 16 not to be out past midnight. If you are a parent and you think it is okay for your 15-year-old son and daughter to be out past midnight than I feel sorry for your children, you do not deserve the privilege of being a parent if it were up to me you would be the one being held accountable. If your not a parent and you think this is appropriate I can only hope that when you actually experience the joy and love that is associated with this miracle than you will appreciate any regulation that may keep your son or daughter safer.
Mayor Keith Hobbs never once claimed this to be a sole crime prevention strategy, nor is it his fault the was some in the media have tried to spin it that way with the headlines they chose to use.
I would have thought that readers of an independent media paper like www.netnewsledger.com would understand the concepts of mainstream media and how it tends to “spin“ it’s information, but I guess not. I mean, some local media attacked Keith Hobbs at various times throughout his campaign in an unfair, and in my opinion, very unethical way and this is no exception.
I would love to end this with a few choice words for a choice few of you, but I would rather take the high road. Not to mention, you are entitled to your opinion, thought and beliefs as well. Even when it is in regards to the I.Q. of one woman you have never met before.
