Nipigon Cancer FundraiserNIPIGON – The Nipigon Red Rock Canadian Cancer Society Br. # 484 are pleased to announce their upcoming fundraising event. The 2nd Annual Bachelor’s Auction will take place on the December 3rd (2010) in Nipigon ON held at the Nipigon Legion Hall beginning at 8 p.m.

“We are hosting a bachelor auction in support of the Nipigon Canadian Cancer Society Branch #484,” states Branch President Naomi Esquega. “The bachelors will be presenting the auction packages which participants can bid on.”

“There are a growing number of very exciting packages being donated so far,” adds Esquega. “Our packages include donated items such as: an MP3 music package donated by Keith Hobbs, three overnight hotel packages donated by Grande Portage Lodge and Casino, the Victoria Inn, and the Crossroads Best Western Hotel. A birthday loot bag package from the 31@ Junot Centre in Thunder Bay”. Theatre tickets donated from Magnus Theatre, a package donated from Brennen Ford, Jones N Associates, Smith’s RV Centre & Pinewood Ford in Thunder Bay. Our media sponsors include: LU Radio & Netnewsledger.com.

“Right now we are still looking for other donations, which will make the night a complete success,” enthused Esquega.

This is not the first Canadian Cancer Society Event that Esquega has co-ordinated. In 2008, held during the ladies curling bonspiel, the Nipigon Red Rock Branch organized a bachelor’s event, which raised $1,500.

The cause of fighting cancer is one that is personal for Esquega. The young lady, mother of four, and community activist fought and won a battle with kidney cancer in 2003.

Having more local services right in the community of Nipigon would make things easier for patients and family during trying times. “Right now in Nipigon there are two nurses qualified to administer chemotherapy,” states Esquega. “We need to complete an updated survey on the area’s background and room for improvement. Bringing attention to our area is one way that we, as a community can come together for the needs of today and tomorrow”.
