THUNDER BAY – Deena Martin, local artist and cancer survivor will launch an unprecedented fundraiser for Thunder Bay on Monday, November 8th at 11:00 a.m at Shout Media, 807 Victoria Avenue E.
As a cancer survivor, originally diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma at seventeen, Deena spent the last ten years thinking of how she could give back and help make a difference in the lives of other cancer patients. In June 2010 she attended her first cancer community event, Relay For Life.
There it occurred to her exactly what she had survived. She was not just another flickering light alongside the relay track, She was there walking among them.
Following the event she felt empowered and the inspiration for the “Planning for Tomorrow” project was born.
“Planning for Tomorrow” is a beautiful calendar with a collection of her work over the past ten years. With the support of Shaw and the Canadian Cancer Society, her goal is to sell 10 000 calendars at $10.00 each to raise money for Cancer through the Relay for Life team that she is a part of. 10,000 calendars equals $100,000.
Imagine what $100,000 can do!
On November 8th, hear Deena’s story, her passion for life and the start of the campaign.
Calendars will be on hand for distribution and purchase.
