Lots of interesting races across Ontario

THUNDER BAY – There are lots of interesting races across Ontario that are worthy keeping an eye on this evening as the polls close. The race for Mayor in Toronto is one of them. While Rob Ford has led the polls for weeks now, George Smitherman has been seen as closing the gap.

Ford’s transit plan could have implications for the Thunder Bay economy as the candidate says he would scrap street cars in favour of faster light rail and subway cars in the city. Thunder Bay’s Bombardier plant is building the new Toronto street cars.

The race for Mayor in Kenora is another interesting race as former Mayor Dave Canfield is seeking to regain his seat on Council as Mayor.

What is interesting in Kenora is that almost half of the ballots eligible to be cast have already been cast. Kenora offers a mail-in ballot, as well as traditional voting on Election Day.

In Thunder Bay the Councillor at Large race should be interesting with 19 candidates seeking one of five seats.
