THUNDER BAY – Headed out of town? It is best over the next couple of days to plan ahead a little longer than usual. The Thunder Bay International Airports Authority Inc. is advising passengers to allow extra time to get to and from the Airport for the next three days. MTO is proceeding with paving at the Airport intersection on Highway 61. Single lane traffic is planned and all Airport customers should anticipate delays.
MTO has rejected the TBIAA’s request to conduct the paving work at night. Thunder Bay air travel customers generally enjoy a very efficient road to air transition through the Thunder Bay Airport. Over the next three days however passengers are urged to leave themselves an extra 20-30 minutes to avoid missing flights.
Year to date traffic volumes through the Thunder Bay Airport continue to increase with September passenger volumes up >4% over September of last year bring the 3rd quarter total to another all-time high. The intersection at Highway 61 will be a bottleneck over the next three days with regards to Airport ground transportation, and will become less adequate over time as the Airport continues to grow.
