THUNDER BAY – September’s twenty single-detached starts was an average month when looking at the last ten years, according to preliminary data released today by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation. Despite this, year-to-date starts activity stands at 156 units, up 34.5 per cent from 2009.

“The 83 singles started in the third quarter in Thunder Bay were up 22 per cent from last year and topped the five year third quarter average by 24 per cent, both positive signs in a year where starts have slowed in most parts of the country after mid-year. Year-to-date, multi-family housing construction is equal to 2009,” stated Warren Philp, Northern Ontario Market Analyst with CMHC.
