THUNDER BAY – Whether it’s a slow roasted whole turkey, tasty turkey lasagna or trendy turkey sliders, there is no doubt that you can find an Ontario wine to complement your favourite turkey recipe. The Turkey Farmers of Canada have gathered some of their most popular recipes just in time for Thanksgiving and Ontario wineries have suggested a wine pairing to match.

Thanksgiving is a special time when we celebrate the beauty of harvest and with that our locally grown food. Many people will plan to include turkey within their meals and fortunately here in Ontario, we produce excellent wines that pair perfectly with turkey. A great way to live up to the traditions of this holiday is to include local Ontario VQA wines, crafted by our talented winemakers and made from 100% Ontario grown grapes, within this year’s plans.

“There has never been a better time, especially during Thanksgiving, where it seems so natural to celebrate what we do best” says Hillary Dawson, President of the Wine Council of Ontario. “Some of the best things that come from Wine Country Ontario are Chardonnay, Riesling, Baco Noir, Rose and both red and white blends”.

“Ontario wines have a beautiful natural acidity and show exceptionally well when served with all types of food including turkey. Whatever the variety or style you prefer, a bottle of Ontario wine will make your Thanksgiving meal a true celebration of the fall harvest”, adds Dawson.

Shopping for Ontario wines is made easy at winery retail stores or at LCBO stores where the goLOCAL promotion is going on right now and during the Thanksgiving weekend. It’s the LCBO’s largest-ever annual promotion of Ontario-produced wines where 148 VQA wines (120 LCBO Wines and 28 in Vintages) will be featured throughout stores across the province.
