THUNDER BAY – About 3.1 million Ontario families and individuals in Ontario, including eligible families in Thunder Bay, will soon benefit from Ontario Sales Tax Credit payments. “This tax credit will help those who need it the most, and it is part of a larger plan that will mean a stronger economy and more jobs.  It is especially important for low- and middle-income earners, and is a permanent tax credit,” states Bill Mauro the MPP for Thunder Bay Atikokan.

Starting next week, eligible low- to middle-income Ontarians will receive the first of quarterly payments that will provide them with up to $260 annually for each adult and child. This is in addition to the existing federal GST credit.

“These Sales Tax Credit payments are designed to put more money back into the pockets of Ontario families as part of our comprehensive tax plan. But the most important benefit will be a stronger economy and more jobs,” says Minister of Revenue John Wilkinson.

“I’m pleased to see these permanent tax credits for families and individuals under our new tax system.  These quarterly payments, along with the first of the HST transition payment cheques that many received in the past month, are examples of how a fair, transparent tax system is good for Ontario,” concludes Michael Gravelle, MPP Thunder Bay-Superior North.
