THUNDER BAY – Buccaneers and scallywags will fill the downtown core this August as the Heart of the Harbour Downtown BIA is gearing up to host the first ever Pirate’s Cove Children’s Festival.

The event will feature something that will spark the interest of the entire family with an Undersea Adventure, Pirate Inflatable bouncers, face painting, a treasure hunt, crafts, entertainment, and a pirate and mermaid kid’s costume party.

Organizer Suzan Cooper Rochon says; “The entire community is invited to come take part. Visitors can enjoy a family-focused affordable day downtown. Admission and parking in two city lots is free, with the Heart of the Harbour BIA gratefully accepting donations for the Dew Drop Inn.”

The festival is being held in conjunction with the arrival of the great HMS Bounty.  The fully-rigged famous ship is one of the most recognized vessels in North America, used as a motion picture prop in Hollywood films. The Bounty has been featured in Treasure Island, The Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest and the Mutiny on the Bounty.

The arrival of the ship is expected to attract thousands to the downtown core. Cooper Rochon says; “Residents can board the wonderful attraction and then head to St.Paul and Cooke Street to take part in the festivities. Shuttle service will be available from the Heart of the Harbour to the Marina as well.”

The Heart of the Harbour Downtown BIA will also be raffling off a trip for two on the Bounty. Ballots can be picked up at any Heart of the Harbour business, with the grand prize to be drawn on July 22nd, 2010.

The Pirate’s Cove Children’s Festival will be held on St.Paul and Cooke Street on August 4th, from 12:00 p.m until 8:00 p.m., with the HMS Bounty docking at Marina Park August 3rd & 4th.

The Heart of the Harbour Downtown BIA is a group of volunteer members committed to the growth, development and beautification of the downtown core.
