Thunder Bay Chill Win Physical Battle

ST PETERS – The Thunder Bay Chill overcame a caution-filled game to defeat the St. Louis Lions 2-1 on Saturday night. Brandon Swartzendruber led the way for the Chill with his eight goal of the season, while Paul Craig scored the winner for the Chill in a 2-1 victory.

Swartzendruder opened the scoring with a strike in the 34th minute, assisted by Gustavo Oliviera. The Lions evened the playing field in the 62nd minute, courtesy of Tyler Nichol. However, minutes later Paul Craig put the Chill ahead for good with his goal in the 65th, with Oliviera acting as playmaker again with the assist on the goal.

It was physical game that had each team see a player sent-off with a red card in the 42nd minute. Chill Co-captain Nolan Intermioa and the Lions’ midfielder Stuart Wark both received their matching orders for their respective teams. Lions’ Brian Harris and Chill defender William Zardetto were both cautioned with yellow cards later in the match.

The Chill look ahead to sweep the Lions as the two teams feature again Sunday, June 27th, 2010, at 3:00 p.m. (EDT) at the Tony Glavin Complex.
