OTTAWA –Member of Parliament John Rafferty (Thunder Bay – Rainy River) rose in the House of Commons today to congratulate the Thunder Bay International Baseball Association on their successful bid to host the 2010 World Junior Baseball Championships from July 23 to August 1, 2010.
Rafferty used his Member’s Statement slot to offer the congratulations, the full text of which is below;
“Mr. Speaker the world is gathering in Thunder Bay from July 23rd to August 1st for the World Junior Baseball Championships.
I want to thank and congratulate Executive Director Warren Philip and the membership of the Thunder Bay International Baseball Association for their winning bid to host these championships.
These championships are an opportunity for people from around the world to experience all that Thunder Bay offers and I know that the people of our great city and the Thunder Bay International Baseball Association will be welcoming, hospitable, and generous hosts.
I urge all Members, their constituents, and baseball fans across Canada to share our pride and make the short trip to Thunder Bay to take part in a world class tournament that is being hosted by a world class city.”
Rafferty said he plans to attend the opening day events at the tournament and take in as many games as possible.
