THUNDER BAY – “Dalton McGuinty’s HST deal keeps getting worse for Ontario families”, Ontario PC Leader Tim Hudak said today as he called on Dalton McGuinty to stop payment on the HST bribe cheques McGuinty is sending to convicted prisoners. “What’s truly criminal is how Dalton McGuinty’s HST deal keeps getting worse for Ontario families, who are already working hard enough to earn an honest living and balance their family budgets.”
The revelation that convicted prisoners would receive HST bribe cheques is the latest evidence Dalton McGuinty is out-out-touch with Ontario families, according to the PCs.
“First, McGuinty shocked seniors and families by handing out $25 million dollars in so-called HST severance to tax collectors who won’t miss a day of work. Then, after months of denial, he came clean and finally admitted that his HST tax grab was not revenue neutral and was going to hurt families and seniors,” stated Hudak. “And then, after encouraging Ontario businesses to lower their prices once the HST takes effect, we learned that the McGuinty Government’s own LCBO monopoly was actually increasing prices”.
“Dalton McGuinty is out-of-touch with Ontario families. It is Ontario families and seniors, not prisoners, who will pay for the increased cost of heat and hydro at Ontario jails once his HST tax grab takes effect. He should be providing tax relief to families and not convicted prisoners”, complained Hudak.
The PCs have opposed the HST, but have not promised to scrap the tax if elected in 2011.
