THUNDER BAY – Trustee Lori Lukinuk of the Lakehead District School Board was elected as First Vice President of the Ontario Public School Boards’ Association (OPSBA) at the Annual General Meeting held on June 5 in Windsor, Ontario.  Trustee Lukinuk was first elected to the Lakehead District School Board in 2003.

“As a Provincial Vice President, my responsibilities will include providing support for all regions, and the OPSBA President,” says Trustee Lori Lukinuk, Lakehead District School Board and First Vice President of the Ontario School Boards’ Association.  “My priority will continue to be my role as a Trustee of the Lakehead District School Board and our first priority, our students.  This new position will provide opportunities for our unique issues and concerns to be heard on a provincial level.”

Trustee Lukinuk is no stranger to the provincial scene.  In June 2007, she was elected to the position of Vice-President of the Northern Region for OPSBA, acclaimed to the position in June 2008 and re-elected in June 2009.  In addition to this position, Trustee Lukinuk was also one of OPSBA’s representatives on three Provincial Discussion Tables during the recent contract negotiations.

Catherine Fife, President of the Ontario Public School Board Association says, “Lori has demonstrated an impressive level of integrity and knowledge as the Northern Vice President and I know her work ethic and commitment to public education will only strengthen the Ontario Public School Boards’ Association.”

As a Trustee of the Lakehead District School Board, Trustee Lukinuk continues to work with her fellow Trustees and Lakehead Public Schools Administration to provide the best learning and success opportunities for all students.  Currently, Trustee Lukinuk is actively involved as a member of a number of Lakehead Public Schools committees including  Parent Involvement, Policy, Budget, Success Advisory, Negotiation Steering, Procedural By-laws Review Ad Hoc, and Trustee Expense Guidelines Ad Hoc Committee.  Trustee Lukinuk is also the Vice-chair of the Special Education Advisory Committee.

“The Trustees of the Lakehead District School Board would like to congratulate Trustee Lukinuk on her election as First Vice President of OPSBA,” says Deborah Massaro, Chair of the Lakehead District School Board.  “We know that she will serve our provincial association with the same passion and vigor as she does in her position as a Trustee.”

The Ontario Public School Boards’ Association represents public district school boards and public school authorities across Ontario, which together serve more than 1.3 million public elementary and secondary students.  The Association advocates on behalf of the best interests and needs of the public school system in Ontario. OPSBA is seen as the credible voice of public education in Ontario and is routinely called on by the provincial government for input and advice on legislation and the impact of government policy directions.
