THUNDER BAY – The Underground Gym is located on Simpson Street. You may well have driven by this amazing place, and likely never stopped to look inside. Since 1999 this facility has been one of the places that youth in Thunder Bay go to learn boxing, and to socialize, and make positive life decisions.
Right now, the Underground Gym is seeking help from the community. The facility operates on a budget of about $20,000.00 annually.
Peter Panetta, the founder, operator, and President of the Underground Gym is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to how the young people at the facility deal with him. Parents likely wish that they could command the same level of respect that Peter does.
“We provide positive re-enforcements, and opportunities in a wide range of activities, which would otherwise not be available,” shares Panetta.
Over the years, The Underground Gym has evolved to meet the needs of the neighbourhood. There are hot meals provided to over 40 kids everyday. Over time, hundreds of Thunder Bay’s young people have benefited from the programs offered.
Right now, Panetta is seeking help from the people of Thunder Bay to help keep The Underground Gym going. If you would like to help you can make a tax deductable donation.
