THUNDER BAY – Pedalz, a partnership between the City of Thunder Bay, EcoSuperior, Thunder Bay District Health Unit, Lakehead School Board, Thunder Bay Cycling Club, and Black Sheep Mountain Bike Club will be organizing a free Bike Rodeo at Grandview Arena on Saturday, May 15 from 10 am to 2 pm. The Bike Rodeo gives youth ages eight to 12 an opportunity to learn fundamental safe cycling skills.

“One of the key challenges we have is promoting good cycling behaviour,” said Adam Krupper, City of Thunder Bay Active Transportation Coordinator. “With Pedalz Bike Rodeos we are ensuring that Thunder Bay’s youth have the skills to ride safely and lawfully.”

Staff from the Thunder Bay District Health Unit will be available to assist with proper helmet fitting, as well as local bike retailers checking for and repairing minor mechanical problems. The Cycling Club and Black Sheep members will also be running an on-bike cycling skills obstacle course, and there will be an intersection mock-up to learn the rules of the road.

Pedalz aims to improve the health and well-being of youth by providing a positive educational opportunity and proper cycling skills education that will prevent injuries and make them better road users as they get older.

The course takes one hour to complete. Youth and parents are encouraged to attend.
