Bus Accident Closes Cumberland Street

THUNDER BAY – It has been a busy day for Thunder Bay Police. An accident occurred at approximately 4:05pm on Cumberland Street. A black truck parked in front of The Office Bar and Grill was pulling out, and came into collision with by the Mainline Extra Thunder Bay City transit bus. The Dodge pickup was hit directly onto the driver’s side.

There was damage to the windshield of the bus.

According to Les Newman District Chief of the Thunder Bay Fire Department, “There were no serious injuries sustained to the driver of the truck or the 8 or 9 passengers on the bus”.

One of the passengers on the bus, Brian Shupe said that he didn’t get thrown around since he was sitting in the middle but a mother on board who had her baby in a stroller got banged and tumbled over the stroller. Neither were hurt.

The driver of the truck was being assessed by paramedics and taken to hospital for further evaluation. Chief Newman said “The driver does have a few medical conditions they were concerned about”.

Cumberland Street was closed down for a few hours until the debris could be cleaned up. There was lots of smashed glass from the bus.
