McGuinty Popular Support in Freefall

Written by James Murray

THUNDER BAY - The latest poll from Nanos Research is showing that the McGuinty Liberals are in a statistical tie with the Ontario Progressive Conservatives. The poll released this morning show that the Liberals are at 37% in public support. This is down from the 47% support the Liberals held in the last Nanos Poll.

The Progressive Conservatives are up to 35%, and the New Democrats are at 17% support.

More critical for the Ontario Liberals are the numbers for Premier Dalton McGuinty. The Premier was at 42.1 percent in May and is now at 26.9% in popularity.

Progressive Conservative Leader Tim Hudak is at 16.4% support.

New Democrat leader Andrea Horwath has seen her level of support climb by almost 4 points since the last poll. Horwath is at 13.8% in support.

Since the last Nanos Poll in May, the McGuinty Liberals have gone through several scandals and are now bringing in their HST proposal to harmonize the federal GST and the Provincial PST.

The rough ride for the Liberals is expected to continue, with a record deficit leaving the party with few options to spend their way back into popularity.
