Cascades Hit Hard by Wind Storm

THUNDER BAY - The Lakehead Region Conservation Authority is cleaning up after Monday's wind storm brought down a large number of trees at Cascades Conservation Area.

Early estimates are that more than 100 trees were blown down during the storm.

Many are obstructing trails. The public is asked to avoid using trails which are blocked and to have patience while removal of fallen trees is carried out. The work is expected to take until the end of next week to complete.

"Any time a person walks a nature trail, they need to be cautious about natural hazards," says Authority Chairman, Bill Bartley. "Following this week's storm it's more important than ever for people to use common sense when entering an area where blow down has occurred."

Clean-up at the Cascades is the Authority's priority while fallen trees at other Conservation Areas will be dealt with as soon as time permits. Visitors are asked not to use trails which are blocked due to fallen trails or use extreme caution.
