THUNDER BAY - The Lakehead Express Soccer Club (LEX) are proud to announce that the U18 Girls Rep team has finished second this past weekend at the 2009 Kanata Showcase Tournament, in Ottawa, Ontario. The Express finished the round-robin portion of the tournament as the top seed in their pool, with victories of 9-0 over the Richmond Hill Raiders, 3-0 over the Unionville Milliken Red Strikers, 4-0 over the Ottawa Internationals, and a 2-1 loss to the Oshawa Turul.

Matched up in the semi-finals with the Kanata Wildcats, the Express came back from a 0-2 deficit, to win 4-2 and book their place in the finals. The finals pitted the Express against the Unionville Milliken Red Strikers who were out for revenge after their 3-0 loss to the Express in the round robin.

Unfortunately, the Red Strikers were able to avenge their loss as they took gold with a 4-2 win over the Express, ending the Thunder Bay side’s strong showing at the tournament. The team received scoring from each player on the roster throughout the tournament, emphasizing the quality and balanced attack the team brought to the showcase.

Despite not achieving gold, the Express can hold their heads high after the weekend, as every player who is eligible to attend university and college in 2010 was scouted by numerous schools all over North America. The U18 Girls are continuing Lakehead Express's strong tradition of sending players all over North America to further their soccer and educational careers.
