THUNDER BAY - Startek has announced that its facility in Thunder Bay is going to close. By the end of March the company will cease operations in the city. The company has just "confirmed for March of 2010 the opening of the new site in Barreal de Heredia. The company immediately needs to hire 100 employees that will be available to provide customer service and technical assistance to clients, primarily in the telecommunications industry."Some of the specific job positions include sales manager, trainers, quality specialists, as well as management positions and coordinators for the areas of sales, human resources, payroll, among others. Applicants must be completely bilingual and those applying for sales positions must have experience in sales". “StarTek is establishing a presence for the long term in Costa Rica and there is plenty of opportunity for career growth especially for this first group of employees who will pioneer the site”, said Ryan Carey, site director for StarTek in Heredia. “We are building a beautiful facility in a great location and are looking for people who want to work in a fast paced, fun environment. StarTek is very excited about our new site here in Costa Rica”. The new 37,000 square foot facility is located in the American Free Trade Zone Center, in Barreal de Heredia, and will feature numerous amenities including a large cafeteria and break area with a cyber cafe, television and games. The complex architectural design includes abundance of natural light and spaces inspired on the natural environment of Costa Rica. In Cornwall Ontario, the company also just announced plans to expand operations hiring 150 workers, and raising their pay rates by $2.00. While the company has not provided reasons for closing in Thunder Bay, its new operations in other parts of the world where they are expanding may be part of the reason. About 200 jobs at the company's Thunder Bay operation will be impacted. Comments (2)

As usual the corporate american invasion into Canada continues to fail because the final issue is the bottom line. Are any USA based corporations that expand into Canada who use a research used as the TQM (total quality management)? This was first promoted By e demming in the early 50s. Canada and the USA refuse to admit that productivity can be increased without unions. Organized labour is not the complete answer. If corporations were to educate themselves and their management into both employee and client based interests the result would be lower employee turn around and better client satisfication.
