THUNDER BAY – For a number of volunteers it has been 11 years that they have ventured out to The Thunder Bay United Church Camps Inc., Camp Duncan on East Loon Lake. 11 years have created so many memories…. And another memory filled week is about to begin.

Camp Quality believes in improving the quality of life for children living with cancer, and for their families. We want them to find joy and hope through the healing power of laughter and optimism, shared experiences and ongoing support. We do that by offering a one week summer camp and by planning various activities throughout the year. We are a volunteer organization with volunteers ranging in age from 18- 70+. The children we serve are invited from Northwestern Ontario and they range in age from 5- 17. The theme of this year’s camp week is “Around the World.” The campers will receive passports at the beginning of the week and will need to clear customs when the week ends.

A daily blog will be published on Netnewsledger from now till the end of camp week and then continuing on with stories from time to time. Today as I take the time to contact media about next week and arrange for some upcoming fundraising events it makes me realize, that this is more than a camp . It is a cause that requires passion, stubbornness and compassion from its organizers.

Coming along on the Camp Quality Roller coaster over the years have been many generous supporters. This past weekend, we were allowed to share the Thunder Bay Blues Fest Stage with the organizers of The Keg Beverage Tent to receive $7500 from profits from 2011 and over the weekend to successfully reach our goal of selling 7000 50/50 tickets ! In 2013 we will receive a cheque from the profits from this year. This partnership was started 6 years ago and has brought us a great deal of cash and recognition over the years. We love The Keg..

We also love Mr. Lube who is supporting Camp Quality for the 9th year on Friday, July 13th with in shop specials at both locations and a car wash at 645 Arthur St W. Mr. Lube does it right for Camp Quality and the event is dedicated to one of our dear past campers, Claudia Gagalo …. More on Claudia and the event tomorrow ….. ~
