NNLCRIMEbeatTHUNDER BAY – The Ministry of Children and Youth Services, Youth Justice Services Division formally terminated their contract with Creighton Youth Services for the provision of the Community Support Team (CST) for Thunder Bay and District on Monday June 11, 2012 effective August 10, 2012.  CUPE Local 3367 represents workers of Creighton Youth Services in Thunder Bay as well as the CST in Kenora, who will remain open.

High Risk youth are typically highly defensive, reactive and not responsive to traditional mental health engagement-interventions.  CST has never allowed wait lists for youth, works flexible hours, is strength based, and services in the environment they are needed; homes, schools, neighborhoods and communities of our youth. CST goes above and beyond to assist youth to be successful and become productive citizens in their communities.

CST Services will no longer be available in the Thunder Bay District, including; towns and First Nations communities in the North Shore of Lake Superior; Superior Greenstone, and the Armstrong area.

CST offers intensive, frequent and rehabilitative counseling to youth and their families with the goal to reduce/prevent further offending and custody sentence.

The Ministry does not live in this District. If you live in this service area, CST needs your help and voice. Please contact your local MPP office, the Office of The Provincial Advocate for Children and Youth, and/or The Minister of Children & Youth Servies to let them know your concerns for these youths, families and our communities. Our Local MPP’s have continued for several years to be strong advocates in their work to support Creighton Youth Services, and we appreciate all their efforts.
