Flood Warning issued by Lakehead Region Conservation Authority – 0840EDT May 28 2012

THUNDER BAY – The Lakehead Region Conservation Authority is upgrading the Flood Watch to a Flood Warning for the Lakehead Region including The City of Thunder Bay, Municipalities of Neebing, Oliver-Paipoonge, Shuniah, and the Townships of O’Connor, Conmee, Gillies, and Dorion.

Flooding is occurring in the Lakehead Region at this time, states the TRCA in a press release.

Area watercourses will continue to rise over the day in response to the recent precipitation.

An additional 4 millimetres of precipitation is forecasted for today, with an additional 10 – 15 possible in thunder storms. Tuesday is forecasted to receive 2 millimetres of precipitation.

The LRCA advises that “Many area roads have been closed due to flooding. Extreme caution is advised when traveling in the area. The public is advised to stay away from fast flowing water in watercourses and ditches.
